Week Nine

This is called a backside air.

Business planning, spreadsheets, logo design, web/blog design. Extremely motivated & inspired. This is actually happening.

It's back to classes this week, with Soundwave coming up on Friday. I feel oddly restless.

this week kind of sucked.
so does this picture. i had one that i liked a bit more, but i didn't feel like it was honest with my current state of mind.

Ty

35mm film. From a hike Alex and I went on, following a trail behind our house. This photograph makes me think about change and roots and beginnings.

Another photo from the day I met up with Anna and her boyfriend Chris and their friends. They live such a beautiful and fun life that I'm so jealous of. I'm hoping to go visit them again soon!

week 8

Someone was watching me while I took this and it was really awkward.

This is my boss.

Sincerely,
Matt Smith

Shot lots film this week, it's getting developed right now so I may end up replacing this later in the week. I need to get back to really exploring, I have been looking up abandoned and vacant property around denver lately and will probably start exploring that. I have also been applying for schools this week, it's been exciting and anxiety ridden. But mostly exciting. I also have been reading a lot this week, I  always forget how fun it is to escape into a story.

This is the beautiful Lauren.

A video I've been working on for quite some time now. This was shot entirely on the 8mm iPhone app and has taken months to complete.

Week Seven

Yes these are my shoes, but more importantly, they are my culture.

Sincerely,
Matt Smith

this week was uncomfortable, everything about it. i don't know why i felt this way, i think i am just getting restless. i went out with my friend sydney and we shot for a couple of hours. it was great to reinvigorate how much love to take pictures and just to shoot with somebody other then my tripod. i hope this next week picks up a bit. i am a annoyed by how much this looks like my photo from last week, but this was my favorite picture from this week

I decided I'm going to make a pros & cons list of this week instead of evaluating each part:

CONS: Tuesday my dog was diagnosed with cancer and the doctors found a bony mass tumor pressing on her brain, I cried almost everyday this week, 2 guitar strings broken & one bass battery dead

PROS: my mom was home all week, co-leading worship this weekend//love singing all sons & daughters [God was glorified and it was humbling], I ordered a Kelly Moore camera bag

P.S. I also really apologize for my effort in this project. I really haven't given it my all...and I'm really going to start working on that.

I'm back in Canberra.

I saw La Dispute last night. It was amazing. We had a chat to Chad and Adam and Jordan afterwards and it was unreal.

Things at home are still a bit rough. It's like a bottle of sand and water was shaken until everything was blurry and nothing was certain. The bottle is still now, but the little sand particles are in the process of settling to the bottom, slowly clearing the water so sometime soon everything will be transparent again.

I've been in a weird space lately. Trying to stay grounded while avoiding things getting stagnant.

I've been shooting more film lately, and this shot is from a roll I just got developed from this week. These carrots are from our winter farm share-- locally and organically grown!  I live in a big warm, musical house with six other people and we all like to cook a lot.

This isn't a picture of me so I appologise. I've been extremely busy this past week, consistently getting only 4-5 hours of sleep per night so I couldn't really muster a fantastic picture. I guess this means I'm changing my project to a "mostly self portrait 52." This is my friend Connor.

My friend Natalie at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. It's by far the best art museum I have ever been to.

Week Six

This one is called "Last One Out."
I went down to San Diego on thursday to meet up with this beautiful girl. Naturally, I had to drive down early for my morning surf. The swell direction looked good for south Orange County so I made San Clemente my first stop. T-street, to the north, appeared to have great waves but there were also 50 people out. Trestles, to the south, looked good as well but had even more people on it. State Beach was not really that great but nobody was surfing so I paddled out there. Surfing, in my opinion, is always best alone. There are a limited number of waves per hour and the rush is hard to share. Sometimes its nice to surf some waves with one or two friends but when the waves are good, I hate people. This shot was taken at the Oceanside Pier right at sunset. The black blob is not a bird, as one of my parents thought, but a surfer enjoying session under a fiery sky all by himself. This is absolute perfection in my opinion.

This was the first week where I didn't want to take a photo. I had no time, no energy, no inspiration, and no motivation to take a selfie this week. I was seriously considering quitting this project. But I know I'm not a quitter and I know that because this project is challenging me and pushing me, I'll grow more as an artist and that alone is reason enough to continue.

- Christie

I guess I kind of cheated this week. This photo was actually taken in August but I developed the film this week. Another rough week...it's really hard having my mom gone. There's something wrong with my dog and the vet doesn't know what it is so she has to go to the animal hospital. I'm a major dog lover and my dog is only 8 so it's just rough. I couldn't imagine not having a dog. Also, 3 hour classes are unbearable.

Still trying to figure out & make my decision about Haiti...

-Alison

It snowed 16 inches on friday, I took this while it was snowing and wanted to do something with the actual snow still on the ground but I never got around to it. I may try tomorrow to build something really cool. As much as I love the snow though, I would much rather be enjoying Matt's view. Nothing else too exciting this week, but I am determined to really explore this week! I also made a cinemagraph (it's nothing perfect, but it is pretty cool) you can see it here.

Ty

I really can't believe it's already been over a month into 2012. Wowza.

Anyway, here's a photo of Anna that I took yesterday.

I had the greatest time with Anna and her friends Chris and Jonathan and Sean and Alden yesterday. I got down to her house around 4pm, then we drove over to Chris and Jonathan’s house and took some photos (I have some film to develop that'll be up soon) and sat on their porch and talked and laughed and listened to them play fantastic music as they practiced for a show that night. Then we drove over to a small cafe and saw them and other people perform to celebrate the release of the CD of a friend of theirs. Then I left and drove the long, hour and a half ride home while Fleetwood Mac played in my car. What a great day. I can’t wait to get the film back and I can’t wait to visit them again.

This is Laurence. He was kind enough to let me take photos of him, despite being completely camera-shy. Also, a shout out to April and Ellen for helping me carry my stuff.

I'm heading back to Canberra on Friday. I don't know what's going to happen but I'm hoping for the best. Everything will fall into place.

- Danièle

My beautiful housemate and friend Elana and I explored a magical field I found by our house.
